Academic Boot Camp

Program Dates
February 26, 27, 28 & March 1
Academic Boot Camp (ABC) is designed for New WesternU Faculty who have joined the university within the past year. ABC emphasizes the pedagogical basics of learning objectives, learning events, and assessment item writing. This session has been specifically redesigned to not only cover good pedagogy, but also how to incorporate educational technology tools when teaching online or in-person.
This intensive 4-day seminar/workshop focuses on specific issues of teaching and student learning such as:
- Learning objectives
- Designing learning events
- Assessing the student (focusing on test item writing)
- Active learning
Other topics to be covered will include:
- Best practices for PowerPoint design
- Test item analysis
- Teaching with educational technology tools
Attendance at all four days of ABC is required.

ABC Spring 2024 will be held on February 26, 27, 28 & March 1 and will be run
in person at the Lebanon, OR campus.
The deadline to submit your registration is Monday, February 12, 2024.

Students will present a capstone project on Friday, March 1. Attendance at all four days of ABC is required.
* NOTE: A laptop or tablet is required to get the most out of this seminar/workshop. There will be in-class assignments, as well as homework each night. Please be prepared to work – it IS called BOOT CAMP.
